PRONOUNS

Pronouns are words used to replace nouns (e.g. names) in a sentence. For example:

1) SUBJECT PRONOUNS → replace the person doing the action

EXAMPLE: Nour works late → "She" works late

2) OBJECT PRONOUNS → replace the person or thing receiving the action

EXAMPLE: Nour calls Adam → Nour calls "him"

3) Possessive Pronouns → show ownership

EXAMPLE: That is "my" car

SUBJECT PRONOUNS
SUBJECT IN ENGLISH SUBJECT IN ARABIC
I أنا (ana)
You (m.) انتَ (inta)
You (f.) انتِ (inti)
You (pl.) انتو (intu)
He هو (huwa)
She هي (hiya)
They هم (huma)
We نحن (nihna)

EXAMPLES:
أنا سعيد - "I am happy (m.)"
هي تعبانه - "She is tired"

Me ـني (-ni)
You (m.) ـك (-ak)
You (f.) ـك(-ik/ich)
You (pl.) ـكم (-kum)
Him ـه (-a)
Her ـها (-ha)
Them ـهم (-hum)
Us ـنا (-na)

Note how object pronouns are suffixes in Arabic. EXAMPLES:
• هو شافني – "He saw me"
• أنا ساعدته – "I helped him"

My ـي (-i)
Your (m.) ـك (-ak)
Your (f.) ـك (-ik/ich)
Your (pl.) ـكم (-kum)
His ـه (-a)
Her ـها (-ha)
Their ـهم (-hum)
Our ـنا (-na)

Note how possessive pronouns are nearly identical to object pronouns (expect for "My"). EXAMPLES:
• هذا كتابي – "This is my book"
• شنو اسمك – "What is your name?"
